Samar Metwali

Samar was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1970. In 1998, she moved to Calgary, Alberta. After graduating from the faculty of fine arts, University of Alexandria with an honorary degree in 1992 as a set designer, Samar became a freelance illustrator and a graphic designer. Powered by a natural talent and passion for colours in Canadian nature, she used her knowledge about beauty theories, prospective drawing, theatrical design, photography and lights on the stage to become one of the most successful artists in capturing the light in her paintings. She works mostly in oils, acrylics and watercolour.

Samar is an active member of the following:
The Federation of Canadian Artists – Calgary Chapter
Calgary Community Painters Society

2010 – Bert Earle Award winner for the painting, “Golden Sun on the Mountains”
2012 – Margaret Sheldon Award winner for the painting, “Stoney Trail”
2013 – The Federation of Canadian Artist, 1st place award in the May show for the painting, “Andrew at Black Marble Ranch”
