June Barry

June was born in Montreal and moved west with her parents at an early age to Saskatoon, Edmonton and eventually to Calgary where she now resides.

Her father was a successful amateur artist and his influence of vivid colour and loose brushwork is reflected in her paintings. A career as a teacher, librarian, marriage and four children meant she started painting later in life. A very supportive husband, who encouraged her, sent her back to the classroom to finish obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree, then a Bachelor of Education. She furthered her education at the Alberta College of Art and then studying under the tutelage of J. McClelland, A. Brookes, and J Williams, all prominent Calgary artists.

June worked in watercolours for many years then in oils and now predominately in acrylics. In past years, she attended many workshops by well recognized instructors including Zultan Szabo, Barbara Nechis, E. Fleming, Norm Brown and other professional artists.

Her paintings have been purchased by corporations and by personal collectors from many parts of the world.

June has been a member of the Calgary Sketch Club, the Canmore Artists and Artisans Guild, the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Group and is currently a member of the Calgary Community Painters Society. June has been very active over the years in these organizations and served on the executive and committees.
