Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Susan Rod studied Music and Art at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She and her husband moved to Calgary in 1966 where they’ve lived ever since. As a multi-disciplined artist, Susan has gained recognition internationally, and won awards for her carvings. She has owned a violin shop where violins were built and repaired and is currently completing a major project combining the building of a harpsichord and decorating it with her skillfully and accurately painted botanical studies. Her main mediums of expression are watercolours and oils with an emphasis on portraiture. Detail and a meticulously studied approach are the cornerstones of her work.
