Shelagh Tranter

Born and raised in Warwickshire, England, Shelagh and her husband Dave immigrated to Canada in 1978. After several years in Winnipeg, they made Calgary home. After their two children were through junior high, Shelagh pursued her own long time passion for art and enrolled in a number of studios, including Jon Williams, Calgary School of Art and Swintons.

She has studied under Marija Petricevic, Michele Grant, Doug Williamson, Darcy Presilowshi, Michael Downs and many other artists.  She is always seeking to develop her knowledge and has attended numerous workshops and demonstrations.

Many of Shelagh’s paintings are inspired by her affection for the English countryside and her travels in Europe and North America.  Living quite close to Fish Creek Park, a number of her paintings reflect the love she has for the area and its changing seasons.  She paints many varied subjects from landscapes, musicians, dancers, to portraits and enjoys depicting the whimsical side of animals.

A long time member of the Calgary Community Painters Society and past President, Shelagh is also a member of the Spirit Painters Group and The Group Society of Calgary.  Her work can be found in private collections in England, and North America.

When not working in pastels or oils, Shelagh enjoys travelling and photography.
