Lois started painting later in life after teaching for 34 years in Calgary. Although she did not have any formal art training, she was adept at helping her students grow in their art experiences and integrating art with other subjects.

Her love of gardens, flowers, people and animals provide great subjects for painting. She likes to refer to her own photographs when developing compositions, and you will find an iPad among her favourite tools. If you ask her what is her style, she will reply that she still does not know, but likes to play around when exploring different techniques and various media. Although she started with watercolours, she has moved to acrylics, and mixed media.

Like most artists, Lois likes to spend time with other artists to learn new techniques, share ideas, and just chat as they paint together. Currently, she is taking classes at Parkdale Nifty Fifties. Her attitude is that art is great for the mind and heart, and she wants to be doing it for many years to come. Many others share that same attitude…art is food for the soul.
