Irene Naested

Dr. Irene Naested, Professor Emerita from Mount Royal University, author and visual artist, has authored and co-authored numerous books, chapters and journal articles primarily on the teaching of art. She has taught for the Calgary Board of Education for 20 years (K-12) as an art teacher and Department Head/curriculum leader of fine and performing arts, and 20 years at Mount Royal University as Chair of the Department of Education and was granted Full Professor (2012).

Irene’s visual art, poetry and prose become multi-layers of exploration of ideas, insights, meditative moments and principles of composition gleaned from nature. Irene is presently working on a collection of illustrated poetry/pros on her connection with the natural environment.

For the past four years Irene has hosted a yearly event on the second Sunday in September called “Passport to the Arts in the Garden Show and Sale” where approximately 24 visual artists and authors and several musical groups display, discuss, perform and sell their work.
