WORKSHOP

Acrylic Workshop Course Description

Brent R. Laycock

Understanding Acrylics

Objective:  Participants will be able to understand the basic characteristics of acrylic paint and to use the paint and mediums effectively.

Although acrylic paint can resemble both watercolour and oil paint, it has its own unique properties that can be exploited with exciting results.  Artists are often bewildered by the vast array of acrylic products.  Through a series of brief exercises, the students will explore transparency, opacity, and viscosity and learn how to use the various gels and mediums to achieve various effects.  The workshop agenda will include demonstrations, slide shows and as much one-on-one help as possible.

In addition, I will demonstrate my personal loose style of acrylic painting.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own subject matter reference materials (sketches, photographs, etc.).  Although I am primarily a landscape painter and will do most of my demos using landscape motifs, students are welcome to explore whatever subject matter they choose.

I will be happy to answer any questions.  Please call me at 403-281-3350 or email me at brentlaycock@shaw.ca.
