Shelagh Tranter
"Although I came into the world of art only about 12 years ago, I feel like it is where I am meant to be. I lose track of time and become completely engrossed in my paintings trying to capture memories, sensations and the beauty of this world. When a viewer tells me that they have a strong emotional connection to a painting, I am delighted beyond words".
Shelagh was born in England and immigrated to Canada in 1978 with her husband Dave. She began her formal art education in 1996 at Calgary’s Jon Williams Studio. She has studied under Jon Williams, Marija Petricevic, Michelle Grant, Doug Williamson and Chris Jordan. Shelagh paints a variety of subjects including, portraits, musicians, dancers, landscapes and the whimsical side of animals. She is always seeking to develop her knowledge and has attended numerous workshops and demonstrations.
Shelagh is a Past President and a current member of the Calgary Community Painters Society, a member of The Group and also of the Calgary Art Society. Many of her paintings are inspired by her love of the English countryside and her travels in Europe and North America. When not working in pastels or oils, Shelagh enjoys traveling and photography.
