Hailiang, born in Henan Province, China, has been passionate about art since childhood. Without professional instruction, Hailiang began sketching by himself. He entered Anyang Normal University to study art, focusing on traditional Chinese flower and bird paintings. After graduation, he taught art in middle school for years and helped many students to become professional artists, some of whom are now members of the Chinese Artists Association. Hailiang received many awards for his art and teaching papers. Later, Hailiang studied at the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University, and held individual art exhibitions in Beijing.
In 2011, Hailiang’s family moved to Calgary and he fell in love with the breathtaking landscape here. He was inspired by nature and begin to draw landscapes in a more Western style. He has had solo shows twice in Calgary. Hailiang is skilled in traditional Chinese painting, watercolour, acrylic and oil painting, and still enjoys sketching en plein air.
Hailiang believes all kinds of art are interlinked. No matter what technique or tool is used, the soul of all art is based on beauty, enthusiasm, devotion and inspiration.
